Research Aim
This research will explore parents’ and healthcare professionals and community leaders beliefs and practices in relation to the health of children (5 years and under) and contextualise this within local socio-cultural practices to provide guidance on what parents and healthcare professionals can do to reduce preventable diseases causing high rates of morbidity and mortality in children under the ages of five.
Research objectives
To understand the practices of parents, healthcare professionals and community leaders, by reviewing the existing literature on the health of children (0-5) in Nigeria
To explore the cultural beliefs and practices of parents and community leaders that influences the health of children in a rural community of southwest Nigeria
To develop a conceptual framework for improving child health survival in rural Southwest Nigeria
