Question 3 (Chapter 3) Textbook: Foner, Give Me Liberty, Seagull 5th edition
Your discussion is taken primarily from pp. 111-116 but you may use any information from the textbook chapter. Pretend you are a settler who has come to America directly from England or your parents or grandparents came directly from England to America (England does NOT include Scotland or Ireland).
You are beginning to see more immigrants who do not speak English as their first language or, possibly they speak English with an accent or brogue like the Scots or Irish. You are having a discussion with your neighbor on this. Your discussion is to include what other ethnic groups are coming and in what numbers, where those groups are settling (colonies, areas), and what you know about their culture such as their religion or their language.
As a conclusion to your discussion, state to your neighbor why you think this increasing diversity is a good or a bad thing and support your stand. Note: it will help to look at Table 3.1 on p. 113 to get an idea of what countries people are coming from–yes, you may include Africa. Your discussion must be a least 300 words but may be longer if you wish.
