Topic name: The Use of Advanced Composites as Reinforcements for Concrete.
Brief Description
This project makes use of analytical and experimental research methods to investigate, evaluate, analyse and proffer solutions on the use of advanced composites as reinforcements for concrete. The project has a specific focus on the use of advanced fibre composites as a replacement for steel in reinforced concrete structures.
The project will evaluate the bond, shear failure, stress levels, durability and long-term performance of the reinforced concrete elements in comparison to reinforced concrete produced with steel. The project will also provide evidence showing the viability of this material in aggressive environments such as marine, shore protections and bridges where steel would have easily corroded.
