For the crowning project in this class you are required to prepare a white paper on an pressing issue for a country you have chosen.
A white paper is an authoritative report or guide that informs readers concisely about a complex issue and presents the issuing body’s philosophy on the matter. It is meant to help decision makers and their constituents understand an issue, solve a problem, or make a decision.
For this report you should assume the role of an international expert presenting a position to some transnational body such as the World Bank, UN Development Programme, US AID, etc..
Step 1: Select a country. It can be any country you like (you may even choose the country you investigated in our first assignment). The only restriction is that the country you choose must lie beyond North America.
Step 2: Identify an issue that is of pressing concern to your country. This means that the issue should be crucial, but need not be a “disaster”. There should also be relevant information and data available on this topic.
Step 3: When preparing this report…
Begin your report with a geographical sketch of a country. Assume that your reader does not know much about the country. Briefly describe the land and the people.
Topics may include – population, some interesting demographics, culture, history and economic activities. Remember, you are trying to lay the ground for the reader to understand why the issue you are presenting is so important. Include a map of your country and a picture of the national flag.
Next, describe the issue in sufficient detail so that the uniformed can understand what it is and why it is of particular importance for your country.
Finally, give us your recommendation on how this issue can or should be resolved. Provide the reasoning underlying your recommendation.
Detail what resources, monetary of otherwise, from within the country and internationally, are necessary to the resolution .
Be sure to include a properly cited list of references.
A white paper is intended to provide a brief but thorough synopsis of an issue. 3 or 4 typed pages should be sufficient.
