Purpose
The Motivational Interviewing (MI) program’s primary purpose is to help healthcare professionals that are patient-facing to strengthen their skills in MI for optimal patient interactions. The modules found in this program teach MI fundamentals in the utilization of Patient-Centered Counseling skills and facilitate continued development to achieve MI’s genial practice. The goal of MI is to get the patient to reach the desired behavior change(s).
Objectives
It is the responsibility of Instructor(s), Facilitators(s), and Coaches/Managers that learners are meeting the prescribed learning objectives listed at the starting point of each lesson within the instructor’s manual. The program objectives are as follows:

Identify the three focusing scenarios.
Describe how to develop SMART goals.
Describe the dual expertise concept.
Describe the information exchange strategy of elicit-provide-elicit
Define evoking.
Define change talk.
Identify member change talk.
Understand how to handle sustain talk.
Understand practical use of the readiness ruler.
Recognize member readiness for change.
Develop a change plan per member readiness.
Consolidate commitment through strengthening commitment and supporting change.
