Description
As patients become more responsible for managing an increasing volume of health information including their medical history, lab results, and medications, new consumer health information technology (health IT) applications are being developed.
These applications allow patients to manage, share, and control their health information electronically and to assume a more active role in the management of their health.
In this 8-10 page paper, students will appraise the use of health information technology designed to increase consumer knowledge of healthcare conditions and/or participation in their healthcare plan.
This paper should include, but not be limited to, an appraisal of self-management systems, electronic personal health records and patient portals, the use of applications on mobile devices, and wearable devices.
APA formatting and a minimum number of eight professional references are to be included. Students are encouraged to use examples from actual healthcare organizations. References should be less than five years old in order to reflect current information. Be sure to have a conclusion.
