PS 314: Science, Technology and Public Policy (Reardon)
2nd PAPER OPTION

The paper should be roughly 2000 words (5-7 pages) long. It will address a real-world policy problem of your choosing.

It will accomplish the following:

1. Identify an area of science and technology policy where you believe there are problems related to the use of scientific information in choosing and/or evaluating policy.

2. Describe the relevant sources of uncertainty that underlie these problems, and relevant debates on how to address these uncertainties

3. Taking a side in the policy debate, describe how you think the relevant uncertainties could be better addressed.

4. Going further, explain how you might better structure institutions and organization charged with assessing knowledge so that they can adjust policy to new information over time
