Case Study:
On placement, a student paramedic attended a 18-year-old female that called 999 because she had jumping Infront of a car.
On arrival, the patient was with a group of unknown people that she called her a friends, the individual appeared to be under the influence of alcohol while vrying in pain from the injury she had, when asked what had happen, they realised this was an attempt to end her life. She had suicidal thought and was feeling depressed and anxious. The patient was very distressed when mentioning her mother and started to become very aggressive, she has been diagnosed with depression , ADHD, social anxiety and generalised anxiety disorder .
The patient, smokes and drinks alcohol everyday to escape life; she was peer pressure into these activities her mates in school at a younger age, at the time she states that it made her feel more welcome and felt part of a family, and now without knowing has developed into a know intravenous drug user.
The patient became unemployed when she was diagnosed with Social Anxiety Disorder a years ago. The patient takes antidepressants and has been to previous counselling groups to stop smoking. She said she wanted help on her anxiety, depression and wanted to stop smoking. It was agreed that she would be referred to a mental health service where a health care professional will carry out a physical assessment on her and support her needs.
