Are you always morally permitted to kill someone who is threatening your life?
Can you kill someone to save yourself? On the face of it, this question may seem philosophically uninteresting.
Most people think that it would be morally permissible to kill someone in self-defence. But what does ‘self-defence’ mean here?
Does ‘self-defence’ only cover cases where you are the victim of violent aggression? Does it make a difference if the aggressor’s
behaviour occurs because of psychosis? Does ‘self-defence’ cover tiny house/expanding child cases?
Are you permitted to use the body of an innocent bystander (in a way that kills them) in order to save yourself?
Key questions:
Under what conditions, if any, is it morally permissible to kill someone else in order to save oneself?
Are you always morally permitted to kill someone who is threatening your life?
Is it permissible to kill innocent threats?
