1. Go on a scavenger hunt for a movie that has a soundtrack. You can use Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, DVDs in your library, or any place where a soundtrack exists for this assignment. See COURSE. MATERIALS for slides and links.
2. Watch a movie (or a good portion of it where “action” or “suspense” or “drama” occurs.
3. Find a scene that is particularly impacted by music, and watch it both with and without the sound turned on. A famous example of using a movie scene with and without music is the shower scene from “Psycho.”
4. Write a post in the Discussion Board mentioning what musical devices or form is used by the composer to create the musical effects.
Discuss consonance vs. dissonance, tempo (slow vs. fast), dynamic contour, and use of percussion instruments or string instruments to create a desired “effect.” This exercise will let you think and listen analytically and creatively without being a passive consumer of movie music.
5. Post a link to a YouTube clip of a representative scene if you can find it on YouTube without paying,
