Discussion – Absence Management and RTW Process Map

The purpose of this discussion is to reflect on your learning and to further your understanding of absence management and the RTW process (i.e., RTW plan and accommodations).
HR professionals require skills to design business process maps and workflows. RTW and duty to accommodate themes are perfect scenarios to practice these decision flows. Having the ability to properly map these HR business processes can also translate into effective communication tools. A workflow also helps manage expectations from management, employees, and other stakeholders.
1. Create an RTW process map

Using Word, PowerPoint, or another authoring tool of your choice (e.g., bubbl.us and Plectica), map the workflow of an RTW process in an organization.

You can choose to draw from a work-related experience or create your own scenario. The idea is that you will consider, in this process, a step where you can bring an employee on disability leave back to the workplace (as early as medically possible) to accommodate him/her on modified duties, modified hours, etc., and consider whether they go back to their actual job or a different one.

The following is an example of an RTW process map to give you an idea of expected format for when you create your own RTW process map:

2. Share your RTW process map

Once you have completed your RTW process map, share it with your classmates in a discussion post (e.g., file attachment, screenshot, or share a link/URL).
