The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate mastery of one or more of these learning objectives:

1. Explain the foundational principles of economics.

2. Explain the operation of competitive and noncompetitive markets.

3. Contrast the impact of different market structures and agents.

As such any Micro related news article can be used. It could cover the concepts of price, investment, a specific market or company. It should relate to an economic decision by an individual or firm.

The article should have been published this semester. Your paper should be two pages or up to three pages if double spaced but no more. Please use a font of 12. The paper should be organized under four headings:

• Very brief summary of the article

• Evidence and Assumptions

• Economic Analysis (relate to topics we discussed or in the book)

• My Opinion/Ideas

All papers should exhibit college quality writing and source documentation.

Papers will be evaluated on the level of critical thinking and the level of written communication.

Critical Thinking should:

• Identify the main problem and any assumptions

• Identify the quality of the data and evidence

• Consider alternative views and subject matter discussed in class and the text book

• Identify your own position and ideas on the issue.

Written Communication should:

• Text should be organized, clear and logical for the reader

• Grammar and mechanics should not distract
