Assignment 1
Task (Weighted 30%)
Data analysis and report of quantitative findings and critical reflection
(1500 words)
A personally selected small-scale exercise in quantitative data collection and analysis.
Determine an area that you wish to research and undertake a small scale exercise in quantitative data collection and analysis. Create a survey with no more than 10 questions. Produce a report using terminology associated with the research process, explore the method used in data collection, explain the process of analysing the data and provide an interpretation of the results and a conclusion. Use an appropriate tool (such as Excel / SPSS) to analyse the data.

Part 2 – Quantitative Exercise
Introduction
This report presents the study of …. [study title, a few sentences about the study background, reason for choosing this study area, data collection methods (e.g. survey), participant selection and population, sampling justification, analysis approach (e.g. cross-tabulation / correlation). In this section you should just have1/2/3 references to good relevant literature in relation to the study background and the quantitative research approach and techniques.
Procedure
Introduction to the Quantitative approach: nature, characteristic principles practices.
Description of Data Collection procedures carried in detail (survey design decisions etc.)
Description of Data analysis method in detail
(In this section you should have 2/3 references to the quantitative research literature and perhaps something on the data collection method (e.g. survey design) and SPSS
Data Presentation and Findings
In this section you should present your data (not in raw form but in tables, charts etc. with interpretation)
How you present this is up to you: e.g. either table, chart or both.
It’s important that your provide your interpretation that you have drawn from the data.
(References are less likely in this section)
Conclusion/Reflection
Reflection on the procedures identifying strengths and weakness to your data collection and/or data analysis. Suggestions what you would do differently if undertaking the study again next time.
(References to quantitative methods research that underpin the suggestions you make)

(Harvard / APA style) to be confirmed in class discussion.
Note: You can use any styling you see as fit for purpose. But structure, grammar, spelling, page numbers, labelling and appropriate referencing technique are the basic criteria.
