Community Report: Guidance
The aim of this report is to raise awareness of the meaning of “community” and to consider its influence on child and family health.
Guidance:
Students will produce a 2500 word report on the local community in which their setting is located.
The report will enable students to develop their report writing skills.
The report will enable students to explore the ‘community’ in which their setting is located
Students will identify and discuss, with supporting literature, the health, social and economic factors within the community in which their setting is.
Students will discuss the epidemiological trends and interpret relevant data related to child & family health policy.
Students will evaluate how research and policy impacts on the child health provision in their community and identify how this promotes positive health outcomes for the children and their families living in this community.
7.There must be evidence of supporting literature used throughout the report, making links between the community features and its impact on health.
Adhere to Harvard Referencing throughout.
Factors to be included in the report:
A brief overview of your setting.
A brief history of the local area.
Describe the:
Demography: age, ethnicity, race/culture
Social/ Economic makeup: Employment, unemployment, Occupations
Educational Provision e.g. schools, nurseries, sure-start
Health Provision e.g. Doctors surgeries, child health services, dentists.
Housing e.g. type, new developments
Transport facilities e.g. train / bus routes / accessibility
Leisure and recreation facilities e.g. parks, health clubs
Social service Provision
Voluntary Community Groups e.g. NCT, Age-concern
Identify and discuss the health issues / potential issues for children and families.
A Conclusion
Two recommendations for changes in your community that could enhance the health outcomes for children and families (LO g)
