Which General Principle best matches Standard 3.04 Avoiding Harm? How is it related?
b. APA Standard 3.05 Multiple Relationships addresses situations where a psychotherapist may have more than one type of relationship with a client (often called dual relationships). In your opinion, why was this guideline developed? What purpose does it serve?
c. Read this case vignette and determine which ethical guideline is violated. Provide an explanation for your response.
Dr. Williams is a psychologist in a thriving private practice. Because she has so little time between therapy appointments to complete case notes, Dr. Williams records each session with a digital audio recorder so she can later listen to the session while completing clinical documentation. Dr. Williams hides the audio recorder, thinking that her clients will be less likely to share their personal concerns if they are aware the session is being recorded. At the beginning of a therapy session, a client happens to see Dr. Williams changing the battery in the audio recorder and asks about it, as well as why he is using it.
