NOTE:
USE PRESENT TENSE TO DESCRIBE PREVIOUS STUDIES (LITERATURE REVIEW)
USE PAST TENSE TO STATE THE
HYPOTHESES (For example: The study tested the following hypotheses…..).

Instructions:
Read the one of Dr. David’s peer-reviewed research.
Locate and discuss the following components of the introduction.
a) What problem, question, or observation led to this study?
b) What is the theoretical context of the paper (if it is explicitly mentioned)?
c) What was the current status of the problem before this paper? Note: pay attention to the historical overview of the previous research findings related to the research problem.
d) What will the paper contribute to the understanding of the problem?
e) What hypotheses are being tested?
Use in-text citation to cite the previous studies that you used in your summary.

Writing Materials and Methods.
Read the one of Dr. David’s peer-reviewed research.
Locate and discuss the following components of the materials and methods.
a) What was the general type of study (e.g., survey, naturalistic, correlation, differential, quasi-experiment, and experiment)?
b) Who were the participants or subjects? How were they selected?
c) How were participants or subjects assigned to conditions (in case of a true experiment)?
d) If an experiment, was it between subjects (different participants per group) or within subjects (same participants but assigned to different treatment conditions)?
e) Were participants run blind or double blind?
f) Was there a manipulation check (to see if the instructions were effective in setting up the appropriate conditions?
g) How did the authors control the validity and reliability of the study?
h) What equipment or other materials were used? What psychological instruments were used? What do they measure?
i) What were the independent variables and levels of each?
j) What were the dependent variables? How did the authors operationalize the dependent variables?
k) What was the logic (design) of the experiment? How did the authors perform the experiments?
l) What ethical issues were considered? Humans and/or animals.
m) If humans, were the participants debriefed?
