The Impact of Solitary Confinement

When is solitary confinement used and what is the impact upon the prisoner from a mental and sociological perspective? Is there a “type” of prisoner that is subjected more to solitary confinement than other “types” of prisoners?

Address the validity of using solitary confinement as a remedy to reduce prison violence, inmate punishment, and inmate protection. Provide policies and analysis of those policies which exist to protect the prisoner from the ramifications of solitary confinement and provide a basis for the usage of solitary confinement.

-Between 10-15 pages in length (not including title, references, tables, or figures).

-Double-spaced, with 1.0 inch margins, in Times New Roman, 12-point font.

-APA format in terms of academic writing style and referencing/citation criteria.

-Papers should be analytical and must include scholarly research.

-Must draw from a minimum of 10 sources, which must be cited correctly in the text and be documented correctly on the reference page. Of the total works cited, at least five should be articles from academic journals or books published by an academic press. Do not include theses or dissertations as references. Works cited and the references must be in APA format.
