Journal entry
Each journal entry is worth a total of 10 points. Overall, students should demonstrate in-depth knowledge and critical thinking about the topic. All parts of the assignment should be answered thoughtfully. You should integrate information from textbook and/or lecture. You are welcome to use outside sources, though they are not required (unless otherwise stated in the journal prompt). Citations should be appropriately used (e.g., when you are presenting material that does not reflect your original thoughts). Please use APA in-text citations (Purdue Owl is a good resource if you are not familiar with APA). Your response should reflect college-level, academic writing. Though there is not a minimum word requirement, a good measure would be a 200+ word response.
You must complete the assignment by the due date to receive full credit. Each day (24 hour period) that the assignment is late beyond the original due date and time, you will receive a 20% deduction in your grade. After the third day late, you will receive a grade of 0.

Journal 4: Chapter 8: Family Relationships & Diversity
This week, we discussed topics related to the intricacies of family relationships and the various forms families take. In this journal, discuss how one of the characters in your chosen series (TV, book, comic, etc.) functions within their family (biological, extended, adopted, foster, chosen, etc.) paying close attention to levels of connectedness and conflict. What type of parenting/guardian styles does the character experience? Who are they closest with and most distant with and why? How does diversity (racial-ethnic, socioeconomic status, religion, citizenship, etc.) play a role in the family and their relationships? Make sure to integrate material from the course, either the textbook or lectures, and use in-text citations when doing so.
