For this scholarly paper, you may chose Case Study #1, depending on whether you currently work in an acute care facility, in a clinic, or long term care. If your current work environment is more closely related to a programmatic theme, select the hospital case study. To complete this work, you will be provided a fictitious scenario.
However, instead of thinking of this as a mythical hospital or clinic, use your current place of employment for the assessment and recommendations. Using your own current working environment will be helpful in critically thinking through the process, and the analysis will have more meaning for you (e.g. SWOT analysis). Do not include any names of either your hospital OR personnel. This paper should be no more than eight pages (excluding Title Page, References, and Appendices).

Case Study #1
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of your hospital where you are currently employed has asked the Chief Nurse Officer (CNO) to consider opening an inpatient nursing unit specific to Bariatric and Wound Care Services as a product line service. This nursing unit would have potentially 30 beds. The CEO believes there is a market niche to increase revenue in your hospital by taking patients wanting the initial bariatric surgery and treating complications.
Because it will take time to develop this program, she believes that the unit could be stabilized by taking patients with higher-risk wound care needs requiring hospitalization. Similar equipment and supplies would be utilized by both patient populations. Additional pressure is coming from two private practice surgical groups who want to become leaders in bariatric care. The Hospitalists have remained silent about this idea. It is unclear whether they would support this type of service. Your CNO is unsure if this is a feasible request. She asks that you complete an assessment and make recommendations for the nursing leadership group to consider.
