Topic 2 question:
Contributory Occupiers 2. In 2013 Andrea bought a registered freehold property, 27 Filance Lane, and in 2015 her boyfriend, Simon, moved into the property with her. Simon was an architect and accomplished builder and between 2015 and 2017 he made various improvements to the property, including completely refitting the kitchen and the bathroom and converting the cellar into a gymnasium and cinema room.
These were paid for from a joint bank account into which they both paid part of their salary, and also from savings which Simon had built up since 2011.
Andrea and Simon used the joint bank account to pay the mortgage and all the utility bills. In 2019 Simon began to suffer from depression and this eventually became so severe that he was admitted to hospital for long-term treatment in March 2020. In December 2020 Andrea decided to sell the property without telling Simon. The sale has not yet taken place. Explain whether Simon has any interest in the property and if so how any such interest might be protected.
