Critical Analysis “A tale of two vaccines”
Weight: _ 30% Type of Collaboration:
Submission:
This is an online submrnission to Turnitin Format: This is a written assessment that present a critical review of the effectiveness of the Astra Zeneca and Pfizer vaccines against the AR -Cold-2virus. You will be required to consider laboratory, public health, and epidemiological data to consider the effectiveness of each vaccine in stimulating an effective immune response against SAPS-CoV-2. Based on this analysis you will provide an informed opinion on the relative advantages and disadvantages of each vaccine. This critical review will consist of the following sections:
1. State the problem (Introduction): this will provide a brief rationale for the critical review, identifying key factors that drive decision making and public opinion to vaccine delivery
2_ Review of the science and effectiveness of each vaccine: In this section you will use your knowledge of the adaptive and innate immune systems to consider the scientific evidence for vaccine effectiveness. You will then review the latest data on protection from infection and/or effects on COVID19 severity afforded by each vaccine 3. Conclusion and context: in this section you will provide a reasoned opinion on the acceptance and effectiveness of each vaccine in selected countries Length: 2000 words Curriculum Mode: Critical Review
1. This is a written critical review of a maximum of 2000 words (this is an absolute maximum)
2. Dot points are not permitted
3. You may include figures and tables. It is preferable that you construct tables and figures yourself (e.g. Bioren-der): all figures must have a figure legend_ If you do copy-paste figures from published text, you must cite the source of the figure and you must construct your own figure legend that identifies key content in the figure. It is NOT permitted to directly copy-paste tables from published text.
4. it is strongly recommended that you use sub-headings in each section of the report
5. The critical review will be fully referenced. Most articles required for the report will come from peer-reviewed scientific articles and reports, although you are permitted to reference information from articles in the print media to identify issues and views on vaccine uptake. It is NOT permitted to reference information from social media sites such as FaceBook and Twitter 6. The finished report will be submitted to Turnitin
Resources:
You will need to demonstrate an understanding of the adaptive and innate immune systems, and humorai and cell-mediated responses to infection. These topics will be covered in the workshops and will be supported by curated content available in the vUWS site for this unit. All students are expected to undertake independent research top complete this assessment
