Context

‘Beautiful One Day, Perfect the Next’ – Tourism Queensland slogan.

Tourism helps promote the location and bring in much needed money to the state economy. In 2018, Queensland had 2.7 million visitors from overseas countries. Tourism helps create income, infrastructure and ultimately jobs for the residents of the state.

You have been asked by Tourism Queensland to design a four-day Trip Plan for international tourists (two adults and a child) visiting the Brisbane and Gold Coast regions. You are to access various resources, such as bus or train timetables on the internet, and use maps provided to design a day trip itinerary for tourists to see sights around Brisbane.

Task

The task requires you to:

• design an itinerary to visit major Brisbane venues

• the itinerary is to include times for lunch in a scenic location, shopping and a ride on the City Cats

• use the map provided in the stimulus that will also be provided to the tourists, so the itinerary must also include the grid references (eg: F4) for each location

• select the locations so that travelling from one to the next is convenient and the tourists are not crossing all over the CBD

• include directions for the tourists to travel from one destination to the next which details transport method (walk/train/bus/ferry), compass direction (N, S, E, W), distance and street names to travel along if applicable

• create a budget for the trip to include all shopping, food, accommodation and activities

You will present your day-to-day itinerary as a plan, outlining the distance, direction and mode of travelled to each location, the time of departure and arrival at each location, and the cost estimates for transportation, accommodation and food.

You must:

• make decisions about where the tourists should stay and the order they will visit the locations

• include distances and travel times estimated from maps, as well as approximations of associated costs

• check your calculations to consider if refinements are required

• explain your mathematical reasoning and give reasons for the choices you made.

To complete this task, you must:

• use your knowledge of the subject matter from Unit 2 Topics 1 and 2 to investigate the problem

• consider the stimulus information

• ensure you cover both simple and complex subject matter

• ensure your response demonstrates characteristics in the instrument-specific standards

• develop a unique response in a coherent and concise written format that is appropriate to the genre, and includes a suitable introduction, body and conclusion

• show all calculations to support your response

• follow the approach to problem-solving and mathematical modelling used in the syllabus

• use a spreadsheet and/or websites to demonstrate how you solved the task.

I live on the Gold Coast, so i would catch a train from Ormeau Train Station into the city.
