As an advanced student in public health, you’ve agreed to speak about cancer prevention to a group of Rutgers freshmen.
Begin by telling your audience what cancer is, how often it tends to happen, who tends to get it, as well as some of the personal and/or social consequences of this disease. Be sure to consider your audience: your talk should be sufficiently detailed but in terms they can understand.
Base your reply on at least one professional source in addition to your class notes.
(Suggested length: at least two good paragraphs. Be sure to include in-text citations to all professional and scholarly sources for this answer here. These sources must be fully cited in your bibliography, which comprises your answer to question #6.)
The heart of your talk is on prevention. Focusing on the three top cancers ranked by incidence for males and females in the U.S., discuss the known risk factors for each cancer as well as both primary and secondary levels of prevention.
Note that there are two sex-specific cancers as well as two other cancers common to both males and females, so you will be discussing a total of four cancers.
In addition to incidence, discuss how these compare on mortality in the U.S. Be sure to include the appropriate data on incidence and mortality for both males and females in your reply.
Base your reply on at least three professional sources including at least two scholarly journal articles in addition to your class notes. (Suggested length: at least four good paragraphs. Be sure to include in-text citations to all professional and scholarly sources for this answer here. These sources must be fully cited in your bibliography, which comprises your answer to question #6.)
One of the students in the audience says that she has a family history of breast cancer and has heard that genetic mutations play an important role in its development. She asks you to explain the role of genetics in cancer and if there is anything she can do to lower her risk for breast cancer assuming she has a high-risk mutation.
Respond to her question and base your reply on at least one professional source in addition to your class notes. (Suggested: at least two good paragraphs. Be sure to include in-text citations to all professional and scholarly sources for this answer here. These sources must be fully cited in your bibliography, which comprises your answer to question #6.)
One of the students in the audience asks if there are disparities by race/ethnicity and for LGBTQ populations for any specific cancers in the U.S. In addition to discussing the data patterns, please be sure to discuss some of the risk factors that may be associated with this.
Base your reply on at least one professional source in addition to your class notes. (Suggested length: at least two good paragraphs. Be sure to include in-text citations to all professional and scholarly sources. These sources must be fully cited in your bibliography, which comprises your answer to question #6.)
Finally, one other student in the audience asks how the U.S. compares with the top global cancers for males and for females? In the interest of time, please identify just the top (#1) global cancer for males and the top (#1) global cancers for females based on incidence. You should also discuss the global mortality from these cancers, and key global factors that contribute to these patterns. You should also briefly discuss some of the common issues with global cancer data that impact its accuracy or reliability.
Base your reply on at least two professional sources including at least one scholarly journal article in addition to your class notes. (Suggested length: at least three good paragraphs. Be sure to include in-text citations to all professional and scholarly sources for this answer here. These sources must be fully cited in your bibliography, which comprises your answer to question #6.)
Please provide a complete bibliography for the sources you cited in-text above. Be sure to follow a style guide that includes the full bibliographic information on your sources. For scholarly sources, be sure that your citation includes the authors, article title, journal name, volume, pages and date.
(Use a total of 8 professional sources including 3 peer-reviewed scholarly journal articles as a minimum for this assignment.
Ideally, professional sources will be information you located from the CDC, American Cancer Society, WHO, or other credible organization. You are expected to use your course notes to help your frame your replies to the questions asked in this assignment. You don’t need to do in-text citations for course notes, but list which lectures you consulted in your bibliography following this simplified format: “Abruzzi. Module 1 notes.”)
