Application of Worldview

Description

Instructions

This assignment has three parts. The instructions for each part are listed below along with necessary links in Week 1.

Part One

Two New York Times editorials are provided as a resource within Week 1 links and listed below (The Gene God or Where the Wild Things Are). You will use one of the two articles (your choice). As you read through the article remember that what is read or listened to often reflects the author, speaker, or content’s worldview perspective. Answer the following questions:

What is the worldview perspective of the editorial?

What clues within the text led you to this conclusion? Be specific by providing the statements.

Which worldview question (or questions) is dealt with in the article?

How does the editorial’s perspective on the question compare or contrast with a biblical or Christian worldview? Identify and write a minimum of three biblical texts that provide a Christian’s viewpoint related to the worldview question. (In addition to justifying the Christian worldview’s position, these verses might serve as memory verses to shape a student’s Christian worldview perspective.)

Part Two

Assuming you are leading a class discussion, write three questions that might be used to bring about worldview thinking on the part of the student. These questions should specifically relate to the editorial as opposed to being questions that are generic and could be asked regarding any content. Your goal is to require critical thinking on the part of your students.

Part Three

Find and make a copy of an editorial, article, or other source of content. Your selection should deal with a worldview question that is different from the conclusions from the editorial in part one. Once identified, use your article to repeat all of the steps in part one and two above.
