Instructions:
Choose one additional innovation that you researched, other than the Hackensack and Healthvana innovations, to analyze. The analysis report should include a description of the innovation, the type of innovation, an impact comparison, and a brief impact assessment.
Describe the innovation. Describe an innovation, the problem it is designed to solve, and the manner in which it will solve the problem.
Determine the type of innovation. Determine, with justification, whether the innovation is sustaining or disruptive.
Existing solution(s). Identify at least one existing technology or current practice that is used to address the identified problem. Include a description of its strengths and limitations in resolving the problem. Cite sources that support your evaluation.
Existing Solution
(name, description, and
the problem it addresses) Strengths
(How well does it
address the problem?) Limitations
(What are its greatest limitations in addressing the problem?)
Impact comparison. Compare the chosen innovation with the existing technology and at least one low-tech solution. Briefly describe the possible impacts of each solution on patient outcomes and cost savings.
Proposed Innovation Existing Technology Low-Tech Alternative
Name of innovation
Positive impacts on patient outcomes
Negative impacts on patient outcomes
Positive impacts on cost savings
Negative impacts on cost savings
Assess the impact. Use the Impact Assessment Framework (IAF), described in the IAF guide, to complete a quick impact
assessment of your chosen innovation.
First, complete the “scan” step of an impact assessment for the technology innovation (see the “Methodology for Applying the Impact Assessment Framework” section in the IAF guide). Scan all eight dimensions and use the table below to record your assessment.
Second, select two of the dimensions that you think are most impacted by the innovation. Evaluate and justify how these two dimensions are most impacted based on your analysis. Document your findings in the chart below.
