Instructions:

You are to choose TWO of these questions to answer. Do not answer all three questions.

You should aim for each essay to be 3-5 pages, double spaced (12 point font).

You will answer each question in essay format. You are encouraged to develop a clear overarching argument or thesis and to support that thesis with clear evidence drawn from the class material.

You should write in full paragraphs and include a short introduction and conclusion. Although we do not expect perfect spelling and grammar, it is important that the essays are well structured and easy to follow.

Each essay will be marked out of 50, for a total mark out of 100. The mark will take into account the quality of the argument, your command of the ideas, concepts, and subject material of the class (and your use of that material as evidence), and the structure and coherency of the essay.

You do not need to cite our lectures or discussion classes. However, you MUST use at least ONE of the assigned secondary source readings from our class in EACH essay, and you must cite that reading at least once in the essay. This citation can be a Chicago Style footnote or an in-text citation (author, date, page number). A works cited page is not required.
