A methodological review
This assignment involves writing a 1,000-word methodological review of one of the following two articles. The assignment must be submitted on Turnitin. The review will take the place of the accumulated problem sets, and will be worth 30% of the final mark.
For your review, you may write about one of the following articles: Option 1: Fish, M. Steven. 2002. “Islam and Authoritarianism.” World Politics 55:4-37. Option 2: Bonilla, Tabitha, and Alvin B. Tillery Jr. 2020. “Which Identity Frames Boost Support for the
#BlackLivesMatter Movement? An Experimental Test.” American Political Science Review. 114(4):
947-962. The review
The review of the article must consist of the following sections:
1. Introduction (approx. 200 words) Briefly describe the research question and theoretical expectations.
2. Methodology and results (approx. 450 words)
Describe the methodological set up, outlining the various steps that were taken, including how the sample is created. What are the main results from the study?
3. Methodological critique (approx. 200 words)
Comment on the methodology. What are the limitations of the study? Is there room for improvement?
4. Conclusion (approx. 150 words)
Briefly reflect on the implications of the study. Given the limitations outlined in point 3, what have we learned from the study?
5. Bibliography
Include a full bibliography of all works cited (if any). Please follow the departmental style guide:
