Respond to this persons intake on the article “The History of Mary Prince, A West Indian Slave, Related by Herself”

Mary Prince was an incredibly strong woman. Her childhood was gruesome and terrifying. Her enslavers (like most enslavers) were weak people with hate in their hearts. They viewed her as property. They sold her, “as a butcher would call for a lamb.” I thought it was profound that she sought refuge from enslavement through enslavement. Meaning, she assumed that change of scenery would change the hearts of her enslavers. She was wrong.

It was refreshing to see Mr. Prince had a heart. It was few and far in between back then. He stated, “Good people in England might hear from a slave what a slave had felt and suffered”. Though it raised awareness it had they impact Mary or Mr. Prince expected. I do not think either Mary nor Mr. Prince understood the depths of hatred and sinister souls enslavers possessed.
