Task: Case Study Analysis
Aim/Rationale: Humans services organisations are complex. In order to transition into the human services organisational environment, students will need to develop essential skills and knowledge in navigating systems, processes and people. This case study analysis offers students the opportunity to identify key issues, tensions and challenges, as well as ways they can work towards positive change in the context of work within organisations.

Students will also have the opportunity to work collaboratively with a ‘critical friend’: a fellow student also enrolled in this current offering of the course, who will offer constructive feedback on the change strategies suggested. This activity will prepare students to the collegial and collaborate nature of work in human service organisations.

Task Description: For this task, you are required to write a case study analysis, based on a case study video provided to you on your course site in Week 9 of your trimester.

You will need to then partner with a fellow student currently enrolled in this course and discuss your personal response to the case study. This discussion may be face to face or online.

You will need to discuss your ideas on how you could bring positive change to the situation outlined in the case study, along with your personal strengths and the challenges you would face. The role of the ‘critical friend’ is to ask questions and offer feedback from their perspective. You will then integrate their feedback in your analysis.

You will need to include:

the identification of key issues presented in the case study

a critical analysis using relevant theory canvased in the course
strategies for change (this could be a single incident, event or related to processes)

a critical self reflection outlining strengths and challenges, which includes the outcomes of a discussion with a ‘critical friend’.

Length: 1 800 words
