Within the Scottish Criminal Court Structure, the severity of the crime (and the severity of the punishment) determines which court a case will be heard at first instance, and to which courts any appeal to the decisions can be made.
Describe which levels of court deal with different offences, and discuss why criminal offences are heard in different levels of court. Provide at least one example of a case from each level of court.
