In class, after our guest speaker and librarian left the space, we talked a little about ontological assumptions of definitions and explanations of crime. What are ontological assumptions as they relate to victimology and can you list two of the dichotomous assumptions listed in the lecture and give an illustration for each?
What are victimless crimes? Which of the films offered in this course best illustrates the issues faced by people who experience victimless crimes and how? What are two issues with victimless crimes that emerge for trying to estimate crime rates?

As a researcher interested in victim experience around incest survivors, you have decided to conduct a study. But first, you must submit your methodology to the Research Ethics Board (REB) to ensure you are minimizing harm to any participant in your study. You have a choice of 4 methodologies listed below. Choose ONE and justify your answer. What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of the study method you have chosen over the other methods.
Direct interviews with survivors
Getting respondents to answer an online survey you designed
Content analysis of open blog posts on the internet of actual survivors
Conducting research by joining an online group that is closed (requires membership) and posing as a survivor and listening to survivor stories.

Read the following story of a personal account of one of the orientation leaders:
What are some of the issues in this story that illustrate concepts outlined in your text (Chapters Preface, 1, 2, and 3), readings, and lectures?
Which of the many theories you have been reading and hearing about best explains the experiences of these victims (Chapter 4).
