Directions
After you read the article (please review my suggestions for how to read it in the research article page), please complete the following tasks:
⦁ Review the introduction and summarize the factors that shape the relationship between race and health. What sorts of things should researchers who are interested in studying this look for?
⦁ Based on the factors you described for task 1, create a list of at least ten different variables/measures researchers could use to explore this relationship.
⦁ Identify and describe at least six different variables the author used in the study. You will find these described in the “Data and Methods” section that starts on page 414 (PDF page 20). When you describe them, focus on explaining how they were measured.
⦁ Using the
⦁ GSS Data Explorer, find six different variables from the 2018 GSS that could be used in a study exploring the relationship between race and health. Use the variables/measures from tasks 2 and 3 as your starting point for searching.
⦁ For each variable you find, please include a screenshot that shows the variable summary information, the survey question, the year availability, and the list of related variables. It should look like the screenshot below:
⦁ Use “free-form” screenshots as I describe in the screenshots tutorial I shared above
⦁ As you are reviewing the GSS Data Explorer, please keep in mind that any variables you use need to be measures of the respondent or their experiences, not their assessments of others. The survey questions the variables you select are based on should ask the respondent about themselves.
⦁ Once you have submitted your post, please review some of your peers’ work and leave feedback/comments for two of them. You should specifically look for variables and measures your peers came up with that differ from your own.
