Tonya Case
Tonya is a 35 year old female married for 5 years with 2 children ages 5 and 7. She presents with multiple facial lacerations and bruising and reports that her husband had hit her the previous night.
Tonya says the physical assault has occured several times in the past six months. She reports that he has not abused the children in any way physically. Tonya is unemployed and earned her high school degree.
She also says that he is very critical of her appearance and threatens her with his fist almost daily. She reports that he is now very sorry and has a gift waiting for her at home. She is unsure of what to do.
What would you say to Tonya if she were your client? Explain some of the dynamics and legal options of IPV to her.
