Prompt: When writing the Review of Literature section, consider:
What are the best practices? If you are considering/planning to change clinical practice, it is important to understand the literature and implications for nursing practice.
To accomplish this, please provide a summary and synthesis of key findings from the literature (at least three sources) you have identified as relevant to your question, including a thoughtful assessment of the quality, usefulness, and credibility of existing data.
In other words, this is a subjective gathering of knowledge on your thesis statement.
You are telling the reader that you have done your research and understand the evidence out there. The literature should be of the highest quality and most representative of the literature out there on your topic. The focus should be original, peer-reviewed studies; not reviews.
NOTE: You can choose to do an article-by-article approach OR a synthesis approach (clumping by themes)
Tips:
The BNURS 460 Review of Literature Template should be a helpful guide.
Be clear on the difference between the Review of Literature and Argument sections of this paper (each have different purposes and use evidence differently).
Analyze and critique the literature showing the gaps/limitations/weaknesses in the research.
Discuss the quality and adequacy of the information you identified with respect to answering your PICOT question.
Do you give enough information that the findings relate back to your thesis statement?
Consider the logical order of presenting each paragraph and presentation of each study.
Include an introduction and concluding paragraph as discussed in the template/class.
