The four secondary sources are numbered and annotated in the project proposal.
Use “strangers in the Shogun City” by Amy Stanley for the primary source and include a “close reading” of an image from “Davis_Pictures of Beauties and Other Social Physiognomies” or another image, written text, or visual-verbal text that fits with this paper. Also use and cite Pandey Gender in pre-modern Japan.
Task: Write an essay of 1,250 -1,500 words on a topic of your choice.
Essays should be double-spaced, typed in Times New Roman 12 font, including page numbers, and follow MLA format.
Successful essays will clearly articulate their argument , support that argument with evidence from texts, and advance their argument with clear writing and original thinking.
Students are required to include:
(1) at least one primary source; (2) at least four secondary sources; and (3) a “close reading” of an image, a written text, or a visual-verbal text.
