Overview:
Policy briefs are an important tool within the policy world. They allow for a brief synthesis of a problem and provide an evaluation of possible solutions.
A brief is geared toward providing a significant amount of information in a concise manner. As such, a policy brief introduces an identified problem and offers a policy solution in little space.
Objective:
To succinctly address a policy or issue related to migration and human security; and evaluate potential options to address the policy or issue.
Assignment:
Write a brief on a particular migration and human security topic of your choosing.
The body of the brief should include
1) the context and importance of the issue;
2) critique on how the issue is currently being addressed; and
3) recommendations. The brief should also include a one to two paragraph abstract in which you describe the problem, explain why the current approach needs to be changed (or is not working), and provide your recommendations for action.
Audience:
Policy maker(s) that is(are) interested in the topic. You are writing the brief to inform, educate, and attempt to alter policy.
