Assignment 1: Journals
Journals to document students’ understanding on each week’s lecture, and prompt you to carry out your own research on a number of BIM subjects covered by the course;
The marks for all of the journals (weeks 1 – 12) will comprise 50% of the assessment for this module.
This journal should reflect your understanding of the lecture each week. Each journal is considered academic research and should therefore comprise of literature reviews and citations. Word count should be approximately 450 – 500 words
Week-1: From the Avanti Programme, select a case study which best demonstrates the efficiencies that could be gained through formalised information management and collaborative working and explain why.
Week-2: Define ‘standard’ and discuss the different hierarchical types that exist both locally and internationally.
Week-3: Define the key requirements for producing information collaboratively and explain how technology is an enabler.
Week-4: Define volume and explain its use within volume strategy on a project.
Week-5: Discuss the information management role hierarchy diagram from PAS1192-2 by considering who appoints each role and who each role reports to.
Week-6: Identify and discuss the seven phases of the Information Delivery Cycle and how as a framework it enables the information management process to deliver information and reduce waste
Week-7: Discuss the role of Plain Language Questions in the production of Employer’s Information Requirements and provide examples as well as considerations that need to made when writing them?
Week-8: Identify and discuss several key tasks which need to be undertaken to produce the Employer’s Information Requirements.
Week-9: Discuss the impact BIM Level 2 has on the current and future legal and contractual arrangements within UK construction.
Week-10: Discuss the key considerations and processes involved when approving information as SHARED within the Common Data Environment, and identify the roles responsible.
Week-11: Define ’clash detection’ and ‘clash avoidance’, discuss both processes and identify the benefits of performing one process over the other.
Week-12: Define COBie, explain the data format requirements to comply with it; and define the process of producing COBie compliant information.
