you will demonstrate your professional learning by writing a 1-2 page reflection essay that includes and explains
1) the relationship between lessons and the discipline;
2) the essay indicates where the lesson fits within the developmental progression of students’ learning as it relates to the lessons;
3) the essay indicates the relevant content standards in each discipline; and, 4) the essays include reflection on the pedagogical choices supported by research. In the reflection, refer to any relevant content standards and areas or divisions of knowledge in the appropriate discipline (e.g., Next Generation Science Standards, Common Core State Standards).
For example, a lesson for first grade exploring objects that sink and objects that float falls within the Matter and Interaction core idea of Physical Science (Next Generation Science Standards, http://standards.nsta.org/DisciplinaryCoreIdeasTop.aspx), and provides a base for learning about the physics concept of density.
It also develops the thinking skill of classification, a foundation for learning in all disciplines.
In addition to the essays linking individual lessons to the broader scope of knowledge within each discipline, the accuracy and correctness of the content conveyed in the lessons will provide a basis for assessing your mastery of content knowledge in the multiple subjects you will be responsible for teaching.
