Task: REPORT ON STRATEGIC POSITION AND OPTIONS FOR AN ORGANISATION IN THE SPORT INDUSTRY
The primary aim of this assessment task is to analyse the strategic position of an organisation in the sport industry and to identify appropriate strategic options for its future operations.
For this assessment, you will be expected to prepare a report based on an organisation in the sport industry which considers the strategic position of the organisation, and which identifies appropriate strategic options.
In order to do this you must:
1. Conduct an analysis of the external environment in which the organisation operates which highlights major strategic drivers for your organisation
2. Conduct an internal analysis for your organisation which identifies key issues relating to resources and capabilities available to the organisation
3. Identify and analyse the strategic options available to the organisation in order to secure success in the next 5 years
The intended learning outcomes of this assessment task are to:
Express rigorous analyses of complex strategic issues in a concise, thorough, clear and professional manner, using appropriate theoretical frameworks;
Critically evaluate the strategic situations facing sport and leisure businesses and organisations;
Generate, synthesise, evaluate and select appropriate strategic options for organisations operating within the sport and leisure sector;

Introduction (Approx. 150 words):
A succinct and well-constructed introduction that gives a brief overview of the organisation to be analysed. This should focus on the market in which the organisation operates and key factors relating to the market and the organisations past and current position in this market.
Analysis of the external environment (Approx. 950 words):
Identification and analysis of 2 or 3 of the most important factors from the external environment that will act as key drivers of strategy for the organisation. The analysis should include an explanation of why these external drivers are so important for the organisation to address and should also make extensive use of evidence and data from credible industry sources.
Analysis of the internal environment (Approx. 950 words):
Identification and analysis of 2 or 3 of the most important factors from the internal environment that will shape the way the organisation develops its strategy. The analysis should include an explanation of why these internal drivers are so important for the organisation to address and should also make appropriate use of available evidence and data from relevant sources.
Identification and analysis of strategic options (Approx. 950 words)
Drawing on relevant strategic management concepts and building on evidence from your external and internal analysis, identify and critically analyse 2 strategic options for the organisation to pursue. The critical analysis should focus on why it is appropriate and important for the organisation to focus its strategic activity on these options.
