How do you get certified and licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in your state?
In order to become certified and licensed in Wyoming as an APRN, an RN must graduate from a nationally accredited graduate or post graduate advanced practice nursing education program (WSBN, 2021).
The program of study has to be in a role and focus area of advanced practice nursing (WSBN, 2021). Then they must pass a national certification exam in their study role and population focus area (WSBN, 2021). Further, they must have an active, unencumbered RN license for initial certification.
What is the application process for certification in your state?
APRN applicants who require RN license for initial or renewal national certification must submit a RN application and pay required fees, as-well-as, submit fingerprints for a criminal background check (WSBN, 2021).
What is your state’s board of nursing website?

How does your state define the scope of practice of a nurse practitioner? What is included in your state practice agreement?
According to the Wyoming State Board of Nursing, Wyoming is an independent scope of practice state, following the National APRN Census Model of Regulation (WSBN, 2021). APRN’s can independently provide full practice in all settings, supervision with other providers is not required (AANP, 2021). Also, Wyoming is a part of the Compact State Agreement, which includes CO, MT, ND, SD, and UT (AANP, 2021).
How do you get a DEA license?
To obtain a DEA license in Wyoming, the Wyoming Controlled Substance Registration is required for all APRN’s who will be prescribing controlled substances (WY Pharmacy Board, 2021). APRN’s must hold a Wyoming license and prescriptive authority from their own boards. The registration occurs bi annually and is renewed every two years (WY Pharmacy Board, 2021).
Does your state have a prescription monitoring program (PMP)? How does your state describe a nurse practitioner’s controlled-substance prescriptive authority, and what nurse practitioner drug schedules are nurse practitioners authorized to prescribe?
Wyoming does have a Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (WY Pharmacy Board, 2021). The Board collects Schedule II-V controlled substance prescription information from all resident and non-resident retail pharmacies that dispense to residents of Wyoming (WY Pharmacy Board, 2021).
