How have women reintegrated themselves into the film industry in the last few decades? What larger social and economic issues are at play in encouraging these changes? How has this impacted the way women are portrayed on the screen?
Attention to feminist theory, semiotics, and patriarchal ideology are a must when writing your papers and during class discussions.
Each paper challenges the student to reflect on the importance of the events taking place in society and how this impacted the images of women in the screen Students are expected to liberally reference films seen in the class and mentioned in lecture and the different theories presented in the assigned books.
Special attention should be given to how the historical events impacted what we saw on the silver screen.
Each paper should be 5-7 pages long – typed, and double-spaced. References should be done according to the Chicago Manual of Style and should be cited in footnotes (no endnotes or bibliography needed). At least 10-15 references liberally divided between theory, film, and other reference material should be included in each paper.
