Abstract – 200 words
This is the shortest section of your work, but it is worthwhile taking great care to write it well. Essentially, the Abstract is a summary of the research. It should list what you did in your study (chosen topic) and how you did what you did, and what the results and implications for future practice are.
Research context LITERATURE REVIEW – 250 words
A literature review:
• Situates your research focus within the context of the wider academic community in your field;
• Reports your critical review of the relevant literature; and
• Identifies a gap within that literature that your research will attempt to address.
• Simply put, this part of your work is a mini essay on your topic which includes statistics, theories, existing research and arguments, and legislation.
• Your literature review will be longer because you are doing ‘secondary research only’.
Research questions – 50 words
Questions of interest for thorough research – Outline your RESEARCH questions
Research methods – Methodology SECONDARY RESEARCH 500 words
• What research methods were used? Define what we mean by secondary research
• Secondary Research (academic searches using key words) – when you did your research, what sites did you use? E.g. journal article search engines. How reliable are these sources?
• How was the data analysed?
• These points should also be supported with wider reading (for example Cohen et al)
• ethical considerations
Significance of research – Findings 500 words
In this section it will be a summary of the key points found in your literature review. List and discuss what you think was the most important aspects of your literature review and why they are important to your study.
