The objective of this assessment task is to establish the connections and associations between historical and current visual communication practices.
RESEARCH: Research the development of Visual Communication starting from the Cave Paintings, Cuneiforms, Egyptian hieroglyphs, Alphabets, Printing Press, Photography and up to the Digital Era.

When and Where – date, era, place, context or background
Who – name of the artist/designer/inventor;
Why – message, meaning, information conveyed or communicated;
How – style, tools, technique, material, software, equipment used.
Explain how this research impacts your own professional practice.
Reflect on the future direction of Visual Communication.
Reflect on the types of research sources you used. How did you determine if the source is reputable?
Properly reference your research sources.
SET THE FOCUS: Focus your research on Egyptian hieroglyphs. Answer the points below to lead you through the investigation and design process.
What is the meaning of the term hieroglyphs?
Which elements of design are used in Egyptian hieroglyphs?
Which are the dominating colours in Egyptian hieroglyphs?
Do the Egyptian hieroglyphs look flat like 2D or are they in 3D?
Are there any existing contemporary graphic designs based on Egyptian hieroglyphs? If yes, write the details of at least one.
How will you apply Egyptian hieroglyphs style to create emojis?

PART B:
Select and research one theory of Visual Communication from the below list. In your own words write a paragraph.
Constructivism Theory
Ecological Theory
Semiotics Theory
Cognitive Theory
The Golden Ratio
For the chosen theory, identify the founder, commentator or photographer:
a. How does this person use the theory in practice to visually communicate?
b. What techniques do they use in the production of photo images?
c. How does the theory help to convey an advertising message to the target audience through photo images in our contemporary world?
d. How will you apply the theory in your own creative practice?
Explain how the knowledge of visual communication theories impact your own creative practice, equipment needs and work opportunities.
PART C:
A logo is a combination of text, graphics and colour which helps to differentiate a product, service or organisation while creating a first impression and telling a story. In this task, you will research logo design, trends and emerging technologies.

Explore trends and emerging technologies and respond to the points below:
Explain at least two (2) current or emerging trends in logo design.
Discuss at least one (1) creative and commercial opportunity presented by these current and emerging trends.
Discuss at least one (1) creative and commercial challenge presented by these current and emerging trends.
Identify at least two (2) emerging or experimental diagital technologies used in the practice of logo design/digital art. Include associated costs.
Evaluate the impact of these technologies of the Graphic Design industry.
Discuss the limitations and constraints of these technologies.
Identify gaps in your own design practice and skills to match with the trends, technologies, or equipment.
What professional networks can you utilise to address the gaps and extend your own development?
What are the technical, legal and/or Intellectual Property (IP) considerations for logos?
