Essay on Poems given
Description
Choose one of the following topics and compose an essay using the topic as the basis of your essay. In your essay, you must refer to at least three of the poems that we’ve this class. The poems are the fifteen poems listed in the file Poems for Eng. 122 Plus the poems “Power” by Audra Lorde and “Let America Be America Again.” The choice of poems is yours. Does the poem address the theme? What things in the poems address the theme?
The essay should be about two pages, about five hundred words. Make sure the three poems relate to each other in some way.
a. Some poems celebrate the poet’s race, ethnicity, or gender. They do so in a number of ways. Poets sometimes write about their own identity or someone else’s. identity. Or they can approach the idea of identity in another way. In a well-organized essay, and with the requirements stated above, write about the effectiveness of the poets and the way they manage the subject of identity.
b. The state of politics and capitalism. Often, people considered certain subjects unsuitable for poetry. In fact, a few of the poems in this selection may be too critical of politics and /or capitalism to be considered as good poetry. In a well-organized essay, and with the requirements stated above, write about the points that were effective in stating ideas about politics, authority, or capitalism.
c. The last poem has the word ‘advice’ in its title. Some works directly address the subjects of advice, wisdom, or morality. The settings or imagery may not directly use these words, yet you can support your interpretation of the poems. What poems do you think offer worthwhile advice, or a wise outlook, or deepen one’s appreciation of morality?
