Purpose
Dental implants are now considered the standard of care and have become a popular option in replacing missing teeth. Many general dentists perform routine dental implant procedures in their dental office. As a dental assistant you should be familiar with the different types of implants available, indications, contraindications and complications that may arise in order to discuss the treatment plan (provided by the dentist) with the patient.

Based upon the scenario below discuss five questions to address patient treatment.
Scenario:
Andrew, a healthy 49-year-old male, recently had a hockey accident which resulted in him losing his two central incisors (1.1 and 2.1). He is currently wearing a temporary flipper partial denture to replace his missing teeth. The dentist has determined he has good alveolar bone levels and has asked you to explain his treatment options to him. Include below five points within your explanation. Andrew is not available to drive in for his appointment as he is 3 hours away, therefore the dentist scheduled virtual call and asked you to prepare recording that address below points.
1. What treatment options are available to replace Andrews missing teeth and why, what are the advantages or disadvantages?
2. Considering Andrews health, age and bone levels which implant type is best suited for him and why?
3. Describe the diagnostic tests required and information necessary to determine if Andrew is candidate for dental implant placement
4. Describe any complications which may arise from the placement of dental implants (at least 3)
5. Provide pre-operative, operative and post-operative and home care instructions for implant placement
