Task details and instructions: TASK 1 Critical Analysis of a consultation with a patient
Using a real case taken from your clinical practice and feedback from your clinical supervisor, undertake a reflective critical analysis of your consultation with a patient who presents with a minor illness.
Your assignment should incorporate the following:
An analysis of the consultation model used, the history taking process, effectiveness of your decision making processes leading to a diagnosis and management. Feedback from your clinical supervisor should also be used and incorporated into your assignment.
Your assignment should provide an in-depth understanding of the theory underpinning practice. An appropriate range of primary resources should be used to support and develop the analysis.
Evidence to support task 1: Observation of practice
The students will spend a minimum of 15 days in clinical practice for which a log of hours must be included.
This supervised practice equates to 90 hours spread across an average 15 x 6 hour days. In that period of time it is expected that students would see a minimum of 3 – 4 patients with relevant conditions pertaining to the Minor Illness Management module.
A testimony of competence and 3 Observed Consulations with Feedback from the clinical supervisor will be included as evidence to demonstrate the ability to make safe, appropriate and evidence based clinical decisions when providing competent, clinical management of the patient with minor illness.
The observation of practice may be used as evidence to support your critical analysis of a consultation with a patient
Module learning outcomes: On successful completion of this assessment, you will be able to:
Interpret the health related needs of patients presenting with a minor illness and achieve diagnostic accuracy.
By undertaking supervised clinical practice, formulate effective clinical intervention with a range of clients with minor illnesses.
Critically analyse and utilise the knowledge and skills gained to make safe, appropriate and evidence-based clinical decisions when managing the patient with minor illness.
Synthesise knowledge and theory underpinning the management of patients with minor illness and synthesise this into your own future clinical practice.
