Write a report on the importance of play in assessment and observation and refer to the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework (DfE,2021).

You will be required to;

Provide a brief overview of the current play based EYFS (2021).

Provide a definition and evidence base for the importance of play in child development

Describe how & why we assess (formative & summative) (for higher grades, add a critical element)

Describe the purpose and importance of observational techniques.

Provide a critical perspective on the EYFS including the 2021 reforms.

This assessment will assess the following learning outcomes;

Critically evaluate the main theoretical approaches to assessment and critically explore and apply approaches to assessment in relation to the Early Years Foundation Stage (DfE, 2012, 2017 &2021).

Identify the significance of relevant components of the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile to develop skills in child observation.

Acquire a working knowledge of the EYFS documents.
