Emerging issues
Description
You are required to write a 2000 word proposal for a conference paper on an emerging issue in the tourism industry.
You are to decide on the topic of the conference that you think is of interest to you and the public. You are asked to submit a proposal to the organising committee aiming to convince them about your rigorous approach to the issue and the scope for including it in the conference.
The topics have to be taken from the broader areas covered in the module. Choose one application out of the areas outlined below:
• Urban tourism
• Rural tourism
• Film tourism
• Shopping tourism
• Medical Tourism
• Business tourism
• Dark Tourism
• Eco-tourism
• Crisis management in tourism due to physical disasters, terrorism, social or political unrest etc.
• Development of destination management with the aid of advanced technology
• Tourism as a means to alleviate poverty
• Sustainable development of tourism destinations
• Ethics in tourism
You are individually choosing your topic, but it must be linked with tourism policies that would support your case (policy creation, policy development, collaborations, adaptations, public or private policies, etc.). Your proposal must include a clear description of your topic, its background, links between the issues in question and relevant external environmental factors, critical analysis of the impact that these issues have on a national and international scale, and estimated outcomes that the paper would expect to create.
