Student-Centered Partnerships
Competencies
Demonstrate achievement of the following competency:
Facilitate student-centered partnerships among teacher, student, and support systems
Project Overview
You will create three deliverables for the second project of this course:
a lesson plan for collaboration that will allow you, your students, and their respective support systems to collaborate on assignments for your class; a colleague interview report on a discussion you have with a fellow educator soliciting feedback on your lesson plan for collaboration; and a partnership agreement for success, a teacher-student-support system partnership agreement that lays out each party’s role in addressing an individual student’s challenges in completing your course.
Project Scenario
Your course is reaching the end of its first month, and you’ve noticed that your students are all struggling with the same topic. You decide to add lesson material that includes synchronous and asynchronous forms of class collaboration. The synchronous element will be a live lesson and discussion that will allow you to directly interact with your students and guide them in understanding the topic. The lesson plan will also include a collaborative group project that gives students an opportunity to work together, and problem solve.
Once your lesson plan is complete, you ask a fellow educator for advice on how to improve your collaboration activities. This advice also will help other online educators at your school, so you decide to collect the feedback in a report to share with colleagues.
Even though your lesson plan provides more opportunities for collaboration and support, one of your students is still struggling in the course. You need a way to compel their at-home support system to be a collaborative partner in the learning process. To achieve this, you will create a partnership agreement document that outlines what each party is responsible for so that the struggling student can complete your course successfully.
Directions
In part 1, you will create a lesson plan with synchronous and asynchronous opportunities for you and your students to collaborate. Use the Lesson Plan for Collaboration Template in the Supporting Materials section to create your lesson plan.
In part 2, you will seek feedback on your lesson plan from a colleague and document your colleague’s advice so that other educators can learn from it. (This can be made-up)
In part 3, you will create a partnership agreement between you, a student struggling in your class, and the student’s support system. Information on the struggling student can be found in the Supporting Materials section.
