Assignment 1 Task Requirements
– Identifying employability skills in the tourism and hospitality industry
To submit this assignment students must follow the “Literature Review Structure and Guidelines”
Most students enrolling into tourism and hospitality programs offered at universities are not fully aware of the skill requirements needed for successful employment within that industry (Farmaki, 2018). Instead, reasons for enrolment focus on the perceived “glamour”, travel and exciting opportunities this industry provides (Brown et al., 2015).
Overlooking understanding of skill requirements needed for success in the tourism and hospitality industry and not obtaining high levels of competency in those skills can result in more than 50% of students to not enter the industry after graduation and 38.1% of students exiting very early from the industry after they are employed (Richardson, 2010).
This assessment fills that gap in skill knowledge for students enrolled into Tourism and Hospitality Management at Griffith University.
It requires students to identify and gain an understanding for the skills needed for employability success within the tourism and hospitality industry so students, when employed, can enjoy a long career and gain the benefits of the glamour, travel or excitement that attracted them to the industry in the first place.
